"Clockwork Prince"

Well, I'm nearly done with Clockwork Prince and must say I like it much, much, *much* better than Clockwork Angel.  It still isn't exceptional.  It still drags.  There's not a heck of a lot of action and it feels like when secrets are revealed, it isn't quite as exciting as it could be.  However, I feel that the second book is a huge improvement over the first and I *will* be buying Clockwork Princess when it is released later this year.

I read somewhere that the Mortal Instruments series is basically just like the Infernal Devices series - it's practically Tessa, Will and Jem reincarnated, and going through the exact same love triangle.  Thoughts on this?  Our library has that series, so I might check out the first book there. However, I'm more of a fan of historical fantasy than modern urban fantasy (I'm fairly picky about contemporary urban fantasy - I feel like vampires and werewolves have been done to death, pun intended, and I always look for something different).

Of course, how we feel about books is completely subjective.  What one person adores, another person loathes.  I think for every hundred girls who loved Twilight, there are at least one to ten gagging at the thought of it.  ;)

  1. I want to read the Clockwork Prince, but I have to agree that it's almost exactly like Ms. Clare's first series, the Mortal Instruments. But I still love reading them! :)

  2. Thanks Eileen! I finished "Clockwork Prince" last night and I think what I liked about it - what made it far better than "Clockwork Angel", even though there was still little action - was the writing. It's an improvement. Also, the overall tone of the book was more upbeat than the first.

    When I go to the library this week, I'll check out the first book in the Mortal Instruments series and give it a shot. I still have "Beauty & the Werewolf" and "Darker Still" to read first, and I was just wondering what I will read when I finish them. :)

  3. Yeah, I don't understand why everything labelled "urban fantasy" has to be werewolves and vampires, either. There are so many cool mythical creatures one might use! Currently I am working with zombies, witches and (next book, I guess) dragons. ^^

  4. Ha, I'm pretty much a Twilight-phobe but then I tend to roll my eyes at vampires... not sure why. Or maybe I'm just jaded? ; }

  5. I know Diandra! That's why I loved "Dearly, Departed" - a zombie love story? How fabulous!

    Sonia, I like my vampires in moderation and with different storylines. So I can do "Twilight" and "True Blood" (though I prefer the books), but I don't think I could go for... what's it called? "The Vampire Diaries"? Though I may try reading the books, but most vampire stories tend to be "Romeo and Juliet"... with fangs. ;)
